Follow all the instructions carefully to retain the pigment, avoid discoloration and infections.
General Rules of Lip Blush Aftercare
During the lip blush healing process, you should refrain from activities and products that could irritate your lips and interfere with pigment retention.
The first and most important lip blush aftercare tip is not touching your lips or picking at scabs that begin to form and peel off over time. This can cause unevenness in color and pose a risk of developing an infection.
WHAT TO DO
Apply ointment with nano gel as often as needed to keep the lips most and clean for 3 weeks.
AVOID doing the below activities for the next 2 weeks
- Touching your lips or picking at the scabs or skin that starts peeling off.
- Getting the lips soaking wet – no long, hot showers, no swimming, no excessive sweating (this includes saunas and steam baths). Refrain from working out.
- Getting toothpaste on your lips.
- Putting any makeup or care products on the area besides the prescribed aftercare ointment.
- Eating spicy or very salty foods – they’ll sting.
- Drinking anything too hot – it’ll trigger swelling.
- Drinking alcohol – it will burn and dry out your lips further.
- Expose your lips to the sunlight. No tanning in the sun or in tanning beds for 3-4 weeks.
- Sleeping on your face.
- Getting teeth whitening.
Lip Color Healing Process
DAY 1
Your freshly tattooed lips are swollen and the color is quite intense.
You need to start your lip blush aftercare routine as soon as half an hour or so after the treatment. The skin starts oozing lymph and you need to blot it off frequently to prevent a thick scab from forming.
Blot the area with a cotton pad dampened with Nano silver every 30 minutes, or as often as advised. Apply a thin layer of the aftercare ointment.
If you experience intense swelling, an ice pack may help. If you experience any pain, take Ibuprofen as needed.
Refrain from eating for a few hours. Drink through a straw.
DAYS 2-10
The swelling should subside by day 2, and your lips might start peeling.
Clean your lips after every meal with a mild alcohol-free soap approved by your artist and warm water. Do not rub and be very gentle. Make it quick and dry the lips by tapping them with a cotton pad or a clean towel.
Apply the prescribed ointment after every cleaning and whenever you feel your lips are getting tight and dry. Keeping them covered with a layer of aftercare cream prevents heavy scabbing and protects the area from external contamination.
The peeling will last for up to 7 days (it ends faster for most clients). Once the scabby film falls off, the lip tattoo aftercare is over.
For most people, it’s by day 7 after the procedure, but if your lips are still peeling at this point, keep up this care routine until the peeling stops.
AFTER PEELING ENDS
Once your lips have stopped peeling, you can go back to your normal routine, including working out.
You can start wearing makeup and using other products, but bear in mind that some skincare ingredients like retinol and acids accelerate the fading of PMU.
It’s a good idea to put on SPF whenever you’re outdoors, as sunlight can speed up pigment fading.
Brushing Teeth After Lip Blush: Dos & Don’ts
Dos
- Wait 12 hours after getting your lip blush before brushing your teeth. Waiting will help pigments to settle into the skin and the swelling to subside a bit. Use nano silver mist.
- Use a NEW soft-bristled toothbrush to minimize any potential irritation or damage to the treated area. Hard bristles can be abrasive and may disrupt the healing process or cause discomfort.
- Brush your teeth gently, especially in the area around the lips. Apply minimal pressure and avoid scrubbing vigorously to prevent the pigments from becoming dislodged prematurely.
- Remember to rinse. After brushing your teeth, rinse your mouth thoroughly with water to remove any toothpaste residue or other particles that may come into contact with your lip blush tattoo.
Don’ts
- Avoid direct contact with your lips when brushing your teeth. Be mindful not to touch or rub the toothbrush directly on the treated area as this can cause irritation and disrupt the healing process.
- Avoid whitening toothpaste and very minty mouthwashes. Some toothpaste and mouthwash products contain strong chemicals or abrasives that can irritate the skin and affect the healing of your lip blush tattoo.
- Refrain from using electric toothbrushes. Electric toothbrushes can be too aggressive on the delicate skin around the lips. Stick to a manual toothbrush with soft bristles to minimize the risk of complications.
How Do I Brush My Teeth After Lip Blush?
- Apply your prescribed lip ointment to the lips and put cotton balls on the inside of your mouth to prevent the toothbrush from rubbing against the treated area.
- Put a small amount of non-whitening toothpaste on a dry soft bristle brush. A dry toothbrush will prevent the toothpaste from foaming too much and getting on your lips. Brush as you normally would, but make sure not to go over your lips.
- With the toothbrush angled slightly toward your teeth, gently brush in circular motions, paying extra attention to avoid contact with the lips.
- Once you’re done brushing, use a clean straw to rinse. Suck in water or mouthwash carefully and spit it back out through your straw. Be careful not to wet your lips.
- After brushing your teeth, apply a thin layer of the recommended ointment or lip balm to keep your lips moisturized.
